Buffering · browser · diagnosisYouTube 4K on PC: find the buffering cause

If 1080p plays but 4K stalls, check the browser and computer load as well as the network. If 2160p is missing entirely, first verify that the video offers that quality.

A KRLINK guide · Updated 5 November 2026

Check the video and browser

Use the same segment for comparisons. A single failed video is not evidence that all playback is affected.

  1. Open a known video offering 2160p and inspect its quality list.
  2. Update the browser from an official source and close extra tabs and background downloads.
  3. Compare 1080p and 2160p. If only one browser fails, check its extensions and settings.

Separate buffering from frame drops

Use player diagnostic statistics when available to inspect buffer health and dropped frames. High CPU or graphics load with sufficient buffered data calls for a separate decoding check.

  1. Record the quality, pauses and buffer changes during the affected segment.
  2. Check computer load and retest without demanding background apps.
  3. Get graphics driver updates from the manufacturer. Compare hardware acceleration settings and restore the previous setting if playback worsens.

Check the network and route

Google's sustained-speed recommendation is not a KRLINK speed commitment. Test at the times when you normally watch.

  1. If possible, compare Wi-Fi and wired networking on the same computer.
  2. Where permitted, compare a normal connection and your personal KRLINK profile on the same segment, changing only the connection path.
  3. Restore the original path if results worsen. Send support the time, OS, browser and symptoms without subscription credentials.

Delivery and decoding have different symptoms

Google lists about 20 Mbps as a recommended sustained speed for 4K UHD. This is a reference rather than a guarantee: losses, throughput variation and competing downloads also affect playback.

A shrinking buffer calls for delivery checks. Dropped frames with sufficient buffered data are a reason to check local video processing before changing the VPN route.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does a VPN guarantee YouTube 4K?

No. It changes the connection path but cannot fix an underpowered device, weak Wi-Fi or limitations of the video itself.

Why is there no 2160p option?

Check a known 4K video and an up-to-date browser. A 4K label in a video title does not prove that resolution is available.

Why does a speed test look good while YouTube stalls?

A test to another service does not measure sustained delivery of this video. Compare actual playback under matching conditions.

What are the price and WL allowances?

KRLINK costs RUB 250 for 1 month or RUB 650 for 3 months, with a 3-day trial and up to 5 devices. The WL allowance is 15 GB on a paid plan and 3 GB during the trial. Extra WL packs: 5 GB for RUB 59, 15 GB for RUB 149, or 30 GB for RUB 269. The WL allowance is separate from ordinary traffic; check the remaining allowance in your account.
