OpenWrt · compatibility · routingVLESS on a router: check before configuring

A router VPN menu does not establish VLESS support. Check the exact model, firmware and available client first, then test a limited route before changing the whole network.

A KRLINK guide · Updated 5 November 2026

Preparation and rollback

This is a plan for compatible OpenWrt installations, not a flashing guide for an unknown router. Ask the manufacturer about stock firmware support.

  1. Record the exact model, hardware revision, OpenWrt release and architecture.
  2. Check sing-box availability for that release, memory capacity and required build features.
  3. Save a configuration backup and preserve local management access before changing routes.

Profile and configuration validation

A sing-box VLESS outbound needs connection parameters and a user identifier. TLS and transport must match the provider's profile. Keep complete configurations private.

  1. Obtain your own VLESS profile and confirm how the chosen client accepts it.
  2. Check the configuration against documentation for the installed sing-box version, not just the latest website version.
  3. Run the built-in sing-box check validation before restarting. Remove credentials from any error reports.

Routing, DNS and acceptance

An outbound alone does not implement transparent LAN connectivity. Traffic handling, routing and DNS must agree with your chosen design; this guide does not prescribe universal firewall rules.

  1. Start with one test device and retain local router management access.
  2. Test ordinary websites, the required app, name resolution and behaviour after a restart.
  3. Restore saved rules if connectivity fails; expand coverage only after validation.

OpenWrt documentation

Support depends on firmware and client

The official OpenWrt package repository contains sing-box, and sing-box documents a VLESS outbound. Neither establishes that a suitable build exists for every router or OpenWrt release.

Importing a subscription, creating an outbound and routing LAN devices are separate tasks. A saved profile alone does not route the home network through it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does every VPN router support VLESS?

No. Support for other VPN protocols does not imply VLESS support. A suitable client must be available for the firmware.

Can sing-box directly use a Happ URL?

Do not assume interchangeable formats. sing-box documents a configuration format; subscription importing depends on the chosen interface or manager.

Does a router remove the device limit?

Do not assume that it does. KRLINK allows up to 5 devices; ask support how devices behind a router are counted before installation.

What are the price and WL allowances?

KRLINK costs RUB 250 for 1 month or RUB 650 for 3 months, with a 3-day trial and up to 5 devices. The WL allowance is 15 GB on a paid plan and 3 GB during the trial. Extra WL packs: 5 GB for RUB 59, 15 GB for RUB 149, or 30 GB for RUB 269. The WL allowance is separate from ordinary traffic; check the remaining allowance in your account.
